the cliff

On this occasion I wanted to paint these impressive rock formations from where my series Geology is based. The Cliffs tower above me and crash and crumble when they meet the sea. I wanted to paint the meeting of these two forces, land and sea.

In some parts of the cliff, the destructive force of the sea has reduced this landmass to rubble but in others the water caresses the rock surface delicately. The mystery in the darkness of the rocks contrasts with the transparency of the sea and the brightness of the sun and sand.
