metamorphis

Metamorphic rocks form when rocks are subjected to high heat, high pressure, hot mineral-rich fluids or some combination of these factors. Conditions like these are found deep within the Earth or where tectonic plates meet.

As I read how Metamorphic rocks are squished, smeared out, and folded. I saw the process similar to the creation of my abstract work. As each layer of paint are placed on the canvas the surface changes in shape, size, color and texture gradually revealing a a new surface.

With this painting I wanted to play on this moment of change. Rather than the outcome itself I wanted to paint the forces behind the moment of change. Colours, shapes and textures are revealed or hidden as the layers of paint are placed.
