Finally, it was an art collector in Berlin who fell in love with my painting of HRH Queen Elizabeth II. After a long journey starting from its creation in my studio in Malaga to then being exhibited in Madrid and finally being shown in the Newman Art Gallery in Berlin she has now found a new home in Germany.
This portrait posed a fundamental challenge which was to capture the Queens look or gaze and yet at the same time make it an interpretation and not a replica. I wanted it to be fresh and new but yet still distinguished and glamorous. I think its just perfect that she ended up in Berlin a city so identified by her generation.
The sale of this painting marks the beginning of my new commercial relationship with an ArtGallery owner in Berlin. Just like any relationship it requires growth and maturity for great things to happen and here they finally are. One is often led to fear that mixing money with friendships will lead to problems. I strongly believe that its our relationship with money that leads to the problems. My relationship with money has also matured and I have a better understanding of what it means to me. Funnily enough the Louise L. Hay book “You can Heal your life” helped me a lot with this. Trade, commerce and exchange of wealth is only that “an exchange”. Like energy, money must flow for there to be growth and personally there is nothing better than “doing business with people you like.” Long may it last.
This has been a pleasant surprise to force me out of the production line I feel Im in whilst Im preparing for my next exhibition. Very soon all will be disclosed.
